Professor Adrian Favell

Adrian Favell is Chair in Sociology and Sociology and director of the Bauman Institute. He is also a Professorial Academic Associate at the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures, University of East Anglia, Norwich. His work in cultural policy has focused on contemporary art in Japan, particularly forms of socially engaged practices connected to post-growth population decline. He also directs a large scale ESRC project Northern Exposure, which in part has looked how arts practices have been used to address issues of deprivation and disaffection in Northern towns/cities such as Middlesbrough, Wakefield, Halifax and Preston.
